Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) known as an incurable lung development disorder was described in young Dalmatian dogs. The main clinical symptoms are progressive tachypnoea and noisy respiration leading to a severe respiratory distress, characterized by strenuous and rapid respirations, together with cyanosis and vomiting. First clinical signs start at 5 – 10 months of age and cause death or euthanasia of the affected puppies in 1 – 6 weeks.
