Alpha-Mannosidosis (AMD) is an autosomal recessive disease that is caused by the deficiency of a protein called lysosomal alpha-mannosidase (LAMAN). AMD has been reported in Persian cats, domestic short-haired and long-haired cats. Typical symptoms include neurological defects, loss of balance, skeletal changes, growth retardation and hearing impairment. Domestic long-haired cats develop milder symptoms with a later onset than Persian cats.
