Chondrodysplasia is an autosomal recessive hereditary disease caused by dysfunction in the endochondral ossification process. Inherited chondrodysplasia usually occurs postnatal in purebred dogs. A form of chondrodysplasia was associated with ITGA10 gene which has an essential role in endochondral ossification. Affected dogs suffer from disproportionate short stature (dwarfism) of varying severity, which includes curved front limbs, carpal valgus, shortening of vertebral bodies, delayed ossification of carpal bones, increased metaphyseal width and flaring, undeveloped muscles of the pelvis due to severe hip dysplasia and abnormally short outer digits.
