Frequently Asked Questions

Order

How do I order genetic tests?
You place an order for genetic tests in our online store. When you finish the order, print a summary of the order, and send it together with the samples to our address. The order can also be placed on a paper laboratory form, but in this case order processing fee is charged. More details how to order a genetic test using the paper laboratory form read on the Order a genetic test via form page.
How do I place an online order?
You need to create a user account before placing an online order. Once you have created a user account, enter and save information about your animal. In the next step, you select the DNA tests for the animal and add them to the cart. Complete the purchase in the cart and print a summary of the order, which you send to the laboratory with the samples.
What are the benefits of placing an order online?
Placing an order online is easy, it allows you to easily select suitable tests using a search engine, monitor the status of the order and easily order additional tests for animals whose samples are already in the laboratory. In the user account, you can store all your animals in one place where you can access all the results anytime and from anywhere.
How do I choose tests that are appropriate for my animal?
In the online store, you can use the search engine to filter tests by breed.
Where do I get sampling material?
Order free sampling material in the online store while ordering the tests or using the form on our website.
What are the payment options?
Payment can be made by credit card, PayPal, digital wallet (Apple Pay) or bank transfer.
When is it necessary to pay a pro forma invoice in case of placing an online order?
We advise you to settle the pro forma invoice as soon as possible, as this will avoid additional waiting time for test results, which we will send only after receiving payment. When making a transfer, be sure to write the order number.
Until when can I cancel my order?
In accordance with our general terms and conditions, you can cancel your order until we begin sample analysis.
Can you do additional tests from a sample already in your lab?
Yes, we can. Additional genetic tests for animals that have already been tested in our laboratory can be ordered in your user profile in the online store or write an e-mail with information about the animal (name, microchip number) and specify the tests you want to perform.

Sampling

What type of samples do you accept?
To perform genetic tests in dogs and cats, we accept cheek swabs, blood and dried blood spots. For genetic tests in birds, we accept samples of feathers, eggshells and blood.
How do I take samples?
You can find more detailed instructions under Help section on our website. We will also send you more detailed instructions with the sampling material. WARNING: Strictly follow the instructions when taking cheek swabs.
Can I send cheek swabs of puppies?
Sending cheek swabs of puppies younger than 8 weeks (while sucking) is not recommended, due to the high possibility of sample contamination (between puppies in the litter and between puppies and the mother). In case you still send us swabs, it is necessary to rinse the mouth of the puppy you are sampling and separate it from the mother and other puppies for at least 30 minutes. We advise you to send us blood or blood stain in such cases.
Is it necessary to send separate sample for each test when ordering multiple genetic tests for the same animal?
Regardless of the number of DNA tests ordered, 1 mL of blood in an EDTA tube or 2 cheek swab brushes are sufficient for one animal (see instructions for sampling).
Can I take a sample from a pregnant bitch?
You can take a sample from a pregnant bitch because pregnancy does not affect the results of genetic tests.
Do you take samples in the lab?
Sampling is not performed in the laboratory. You can take the sample by yourself, or your veterinarian can do it for you.
How to send a sample?
Send the samples together with the completed order form in a padded envelope. Samples do not require special conditions during transport. If you send blood, protect the tubes properly from breakage.
What do I do if there is not enough DNA in the sample to perform the tests?
If there is not enough DNA in the sample, or it is not of sufficient quality to perform the test, we will inform you via e-mail. We will ask you to send us a fresh sample. In such a case, we advise you to send us a blood sample.

Results

When do I receive test results?
Test results are usually available within 7 working days of receiving the sample.
In what form do I receive test results?
When the tests are completed and paid for, you will receive the test results by e-mail (pdf). All online order results are always available to you in your online store account.
In which language are test reports issued?
The test reports are issued in English or Slovene.
Does the animal's identity have to be verified by a veterinarian or other authorized person when the sample is taken?
The laboratory does not require the identity of the animal to be verified by a veterinarian or other authorized person. You need to check with your kennel club or breeding association if you need to verify the identity of the animal when taking a sample.
How can I prove that the identity of the animal at the time of sampling was verified by a veterinarian or other authorized person?
In the online ordering process, you can enter information about the veterinarian or other authorized person who will take the sample. The printed summary of the order should be confirmed by a veterinarian or other authorized person with a stamp and signature. If the order form contains confirmed data of the person who verified the identity of the animal at the time of taking the sample, these will be displayed on the report.
Are the results of my animal published publicly? Can others see them too?
In accordance with our privacy policy, test results are only available to the sample sender/client. If you would like that we send the results to another person or organization, the written consent of the client is required.
What information can I get from DNA profile?
The DNA profile can be thought of as a molecular fingerprint that is specific to each individual. The DNA profile is used to identify animals (loss, theft, microchip defect) and to determine parentage. The DNA profile does not give us any information about the health of the animal.
