Postoperative haemorrhage (P2Y12) is an inherited bleeding disorder in which platelet function is affected. Platelets are blood cells that are necessary for the normal clotting of blood. Affected dogs typically appear healthy but are at increased risk for spontaneous bleeding including excessive gingival bleeding during tooth eruption, nose bleeds and superficial skin bleeds. Severe bleeding occurs during surgery or after injuries and usually transfusion is needed.
