Progressive retinal atrophy (NECAP1-PRA)

Progressive retinal atrophy (NECAP1-PRA) is a DNA test for Hereditary diseases. Canine progressive retinal atrophies (PRA) are genetically heterogeneous diseases caused by several mutations and affects more than 100 dog breeds. The hereditary disease primarily affects photoreceptors initially leading to night blindness. As the hereditary disease progresses impairment of daylight vision and eventually complete blindness occurs. In Giant Schnauzer, the clinical symptoms occur approximately at four years of age. A missense variant in NECAP1 gene has been identified, suggesting a novel form of PRA in Giant Schnauzer. The EVG has the best DNA test for dogs with a DNA test kit that makes it easy to use.
