Progressive retinal atrophy in Basenji (Bas-PRA)is a hereditary disease which can be tested with a DNA test. Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a group of genetically heterogeneous inherited retinal disorders characterized by progressive degeneration and death of photoreceptor cells. PRA in Basenji (Bas-PRA) is late onset version of PRA as the first signs occur at the age of 5 to 7 years. First signs are visual loss in dim light (night blindness), which gradually progresses to total blindness.
