Pseudomyotonie paradoxale

Paradoxical pseudomyotonia is an inherited exercise-induced disease affecting breeds of English Cocker Spaniel and English Springer Spaniel. The condition is benign in most cases, but its severity is variable. This disorder is characterised by episodes of myotonic-like muscle stiffness that occurs after challenging exercise such as jumping and stair climbing. Episodes, that usually resolve in less than 45 seconds, typically appear before 2 years of age. More severe episodes, that transpire are usually associated with apnoea and cyanosis, where extreme outside temperatures can also significantly aggravate both severity and frequency of such episodes. By avoiding episode triggers, they can successfully be decreased or even avoided.
