Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) known as an incurable lung development disorder was described in young Dalmatian dogs. The main clinical symptoms are progressive tachypnoea and noisy respiration leading to a severe respiratory distress, characterized by strenuous and rapid respirations, together with cyanosis and vomiting. First clinical signs start at 5 – 10 months of age and cause death or euthanasia of the affected puppies in 1 – 6 weeks.
