Feline autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) is an inherited disease which causes a reduced ability to trigger lymphocyte apoptosis. Lymphocyte consequently accumulate and expand lymph nodes and spleen. Kittens develop abnormal lymph nodes. Some kittens die in young age others are euthanized due to the development of anorexia and weight loss. Lymph nodes increase in size as the disease progresses, suggesting the abnormal lymph nodes are likely chronic.
